Paul McCobb Dresser

Fully stripped, refinished, and restored Paul McCobb dresser

The Challenge

The client came to us to try to restore this iconic Paul McCobb dresser, which had been painted multiple times over the original finish. The pulls had also been replaced, and multiple new holes had been made in the drawer fronts to change the look of the dresser. The client requested that we work to restore the piece close to its original look, and asked for a slightly darker tone over the maple hardwood to match their other pieces of furniture.

The Process

Lots of stripping, sanding, scraping, filling, toning, and lacquering later, we were able to give this piece a new life and get it closer to what it would have looked like when it was made.

The Result

We successfully restored the dresser to its original aesthetic while accommodating the client's preference for a slightly darker tone. We also found replica pulls to mimic the original design, completing the authentic restoration.

During the restoration process, after fully stripping off the paint and sanding down to the raw wood, Matt sprays down the wood to check the tone of the natural maple.

Paul McCobb dresser fully stripped, refinished, repaired, and ready for its home again, with all new replica pulls in their correct locations on the drawer fronts.
